Loosely Speaking

Failure To Launch: We're finally doing this

Loosely Speaking Season 1 Episode 1

Send us a text

Welcome to the very first episode of Loosely Speaking, where friendship meets real talk and nothing is off limits. Three best friends turned entrepreneurs—Lauren, Madi, and Laura—come together in Lauren's brand new studio space to launch a podcast they've been dreaming about for years.

The title "Failure to Launch" carries beautiful irony as the trio explains their vision: creating a space for authentic conversations about life, business, relationships, and personal growth. As Madi puts it, "With the three of us together, we can't lose—nothing to lose, everything to gain." This sentiment of sisterhood and support forms the foundation of what promises to be a podcast filled with candid conversations, expert guests, and genuine connection.

Each host introduces herself, offering listeners a glimpse into their unique journeys. Lauren, 28, owns Flow State Creative and has recently opened a collaborative space called Theia. She shares how she's finally reached a place of peace balancing motherhood to two young children with her entrepreneurial ambitions. Madi, 27, reveals her current transitional phase after leaving a decade in real estate, now exploring multiple ventures while studying digital marketing—a self-described "reinvention phase" that she's navigating with openness and curiosity. Laura, a successful florist running Solasta Blooms in Sydney's Northern Beaches, speaks about finding contentment as both a business owner and mother, having built a beautiful life with her husband of 13 years.

What shines through most clearly is the authentic friendship between these women and their desire to invite listeners into conversations that feel like sitting down with your best friends—sometimes deep, sometimes hilarious, but always real. The hosts promise future episodes will explore everything from business challenges to relationships, bringing in experts across various fields while maintaining their signature candid approach.

Lauren:

Welcome to Loosely Speaking, the podcast where three best friends turned business owners come together to chat about all things life, relationships and leveling up.

Laura:

Each episode, we share our perspectives on what it's like being women in business, balancing everything from work and relationships to society and self-care. And from time to time, we welcome the best in the biz to share their insights with us.

Madi:

Think of us as your go-to girls for real talk, big laughs and a sprinkle of spiritual vibes. So do whatever makes you feel good while you tune in. Let's get the conversation flowing.

Laura:

Hi guys, welcome to our podcast. Loosely Speaking, I'm Laura. I'm Lauren.

Lauren:

I'm Maddie, and if you can't tell, it's our first time. So the nerves are high at the moment, but so are the good vibes.

Laura:

And excitement. We've been, yeah, planning this for so long.

Madi:

It's been a long time coming, it's been a few takes even in this intro, but yeah, I think we kind of just wanted to start off with a little bit about us and the podcast and, like we said, this has been something that we've wanted to do for a while and here we are. Here we are, and where are we? Lauren?

Lauren:

We are in Thea, my new co-venture with my beautiful business partner and dear friend, Sam from Matri Holistic, and we're sitting here in the studio. It is a beautiful sunny. Friday and it's just surreal, like it's actually.

Laura:

It's been the most amazing journey to get here and to now have this space and to be making use of it, and it being literally a platform for us to express ourselves and to host things like this, yeah it was pretty special so thanks for being here, thanks for having us, yeah it's our first time we've, yeah, been here like actually together, yeah, doing something like this, like work related, or, um, yeah, like the first time I thought I'd be coming to your studios, like maybe doing yoga or something like that, like we're doing a podcast surprise the universe had other plans as per usual, always

Madi:

up to something else, right?

Lauren:

yes, that's the other thing, I guess is that kind of how this has come about is that each of us has our own business and have built it from the ground up. We've helped people work on their businesses as well, and so I think from all of the years that we've been friends and us kind of chatting to each other and bouncing ideas off each other about our businesses and things happening in our life, like it kind of made sense that eventually we were going to come together and do something together, because that's just our nature, it's just who we are yeah, yeah for sure, definitely no, I'm glad that we're fine.

Madi:

I think we've yeah, like we've said, we've spoken about it for a while and I think we've all had so much change this year cool, oh my gosh. It's been a year of lessons, but it's, in a way, it's almost brought us together, especially even like a friday. Like you know, a year ago, we couldn't have done it I couldn't have done this. You were, you know, couldn't have done this.

Lauren:

So yeah, it's yeah, everything is in line. Yeah, like, what are the?

Laura:

chances like that.

Laura:

You guys have the fridays off where we can do this finally and like, yeah, yeah, watch it bloom and it's just nice to, yeah, finally do this with you guys, it's crazy gratitude moment, yeah, um, but the episode for this is called failure to launch, and it's quite ironic because, in a sense, we're not failing, because this is what we are doing from, you know, our heart. We just want to have fun. We're best friends, um, and really for, yeah, for all of us we've chatted about it it's just about like connecting to our audience, community, um, each other, sisterhood, um, oh well, that's that's maybe, maybe an episode for another day, um, but yeah, so, um, we can't. Yeah, this is just to have fun and put ourselves out there, connect with, connect with people in the community, um, and some amazing minds and beautiful people and um, yeah, I'm keen to have fun with you guys on this venture I think that makes, yeah, complete sense.

Lauren:

If there's anything that really pulls us together, it's the love that we have for the people that are in our life and, like the passion that we have for how beautiful life can be, how you know resilient we are when things get hard, and the importance of talking about hard things. Um, and so, yeah, to come together in this way to be able to chat really candidly between each of us, but also then bring in experts from various fields of like health and wellness, creativity, business, you name it like any topic under the sun, is really cool, because it just means that we get to draw out these stories from each other, from other people in the world, and we get to learn.

Madi:

We get to grow and I think as well. At the end of the day, we we get to hang out with each other. I think that was always at the forefront of it all that's a plus, yeah, so that's why, when I think it was laura that suggested that name, we were like no matter how this goes or wherever it leads, it could never fail, because we're together and we're doing something together. So I think, with the three of us together, you know, we can't lose nothing to lose, everything to gain.

Lauren:

Yes, yeah very true.

Laura:

Yeah, very happy to be here with you guys in this space and lauren's space like it's only a week or two, two weeks old, yeah yeah it's so new, so fresh.

Lauren:

Very excited for you, babe, yeah that's it like living proof that when you are in alignment and when you have an idea, everything comes together to support that happening. And even, like we're saying now, the divine timing of us having each a friday where we can do this. Yeah, like life has just made space, or we've made space to create this, and it's really cool to just see it manifest right in front of our eyes yeah, definitely um, but yeah, loosely speaking um for all you listeners who would love to tune in with us.

Laura:

We're open to everything. It's literally called loosely speaking like because we're very open to any conversations. Um, even if you guys have any like, recommendations or topics that you want us to touch on, feel free to let us know. Um, we're very open to hearing from you and we'd love to chat with you.

Lauren:

Nothing's off limits, I think we're all very honest and authentic, and you're definitely if you haven't got a sense of that already, you'll get a sense of it later on because we're happy to chat about anything and everything. We're very open-minded and excited to hear from our listeners and talk about things that you're interested in. What do you want to know about? And bring on guest speakers who you feel you'd like to learn more from, like we're welcoming anyone who wants to connect with us in any way. Um, we're just really looking forward to seeing, like, how the community can blossom and what kind of connections can be made from this venture, like I'm definitely a bit of a podcast junkie but, yeah, that's something that I'm really looking forward to as well is the community behind this and engaging with you guys and really making it.

Madi:

You know, obviously, what we're interested in, but also putting it out there to what you guys want to hear and even about us. There may be things that you know. You may know of us which we'll touch on a little bit later our businesses or online but there may be things that you know. You want to get to know us better as three people behind these things that we do, so, yeah, happy to share that as well.

Lauren:

Yeah, subscribe these things that we do. So, yeah, happy to to share that as well. Yeah, subscribe right now follow share, yeah, share, and find us on socials loosely speaking podcast. Yeah, I hope I got that handle right.

Laura:

I think it is still getting used to because they're in under school. I feel like it might be read it in the show notes.

Madi:

Yeah, chuck it in the show notes it's the purple one. So should we just kick off with a little bit about us and just yeah yeah, so you can all get a bit of a feel for for us yeah, who you're gonna be listening to?

Lauren:

chat your ear off yeah, laura, do you? Want to go first.

Laura:

No, I think I'll watch this all unfold and have some.

Lauren:

I'd love to see you go.

Laura:

Poet, and you didn't even know it, mate.

Lauren:

Yeah, cool, I'm happy to go first. Where do I begin without my whole life story, straight?

Lauren:

into the depths when I was one years old. Skip, um, no, okay, where should I? I'm gonna begin with where I'm at now. Um, I'm at a really exciting point in my life. I'm 28 years old, soon to be 29. I've got a really loving fiance who I've been engaged to for quite some time, but together with for over 10 years.

Lauren:

Now I have two beautiful children one is nearly four and one is nearly two, and my other babies are my business babies Earth to Self studio and they are and I think I'm just at this really pivotal point in my life where I finally feel like I am my own woman, like I don't know if you guys can relate to this, but I just feel like I've completely turned over a page.

Lauren:

Like, for the last couple of years I was really grappling with being like a new mum and kind of missing my maiden self and all the dreams that I wanted to realize, and there was a little bit of anxiety around that and kind of just like super, super strong ambition to like share my message and share my creativity with the world, and I think I'm actually at peace with how I'm feeling around this now, like the last year has been incredible in the sense of I've pushed myself to my absolute limit and I've seen how that affected me in really amazing ways, but also to detriments as well, and so I just feel like I've reached this point of maturation where I'm really grounded in who I am.

Lauren:

I know what my values are. I know what my values are. I know what my morals are, I know what I stand for, I know my purpose, what I'm here to do, I'm doing it, I'm living it. I'm seeing things come together for me right now in all aspects of my life and things feel great. Things feel clear and simple, like I know what I'm concentrated on, and it's been really amazing to get Earth to Self Studio to a point where I feel really comfortable with it and where it's at at the moment.

Lauren:

So, with Earth to Self Studio, I teach yoga. I run beautiful, wholesome yin classes that get you to slow down and feel into your body and are this safe space for you to move through life and be accepted for who you are, and just a space to feel your feelings. The best thing to come out of Earth to Self Studio has been the collective which I formed two years ago, and I've had over 40, maybe even 45, 50 women come through the collective, and that has been pivotal for me in my life, personally and professionally, because it's connected me so deeply to this sense of belonging, this sense of community that I've always sought out in life and believed to be possible. And now it's just, it's amazing, these women have, you know, brought so much beauty into my world, and so I feel really at home here on the central coast because of that, um. So I'm looking forward to collaborations that come from there. And then they are, you know, this new venture.

Lauren:

It's really beautiful to have this community space that other people can use and benefit from and have this platform to share their soul's work and help service other members of the community, and just this beautiful blank canvas for you to write a story, share your story, um. So that's amazing and, you know, next year I'm planning to step more into the creative services that I offer. This is something that I've always had, you know, a passion for, but really the last year or two it's become super clear that this is what I'm meant to be doing, because I'm naturally gifted at it and I can spend hours on it and I just lose all sense of time and um. Naturally, the universe is putting people on my path that want me to support them through creative services, so it's really cool. Um, so that's where I'm at at the moment oh, that's so beautiful, it's so nice seeing you.

Laura:

Yeah, fully just step into this, into you, into lauren.

Lauren:

Thanks for sharing yeah, love you both, love you too who goes there?

Madi:

I hate introducing myself introduce yourself.

Laura:

Okay, bring it on. Bring it on. Where is?

Madi:

that from. I know all those lyrics. Um, yeah, I guess I'll kind of go where I'm at at the moment as well, but I grew up on the Central Coast, which is where we're currently recording this from, and now Lauren lives here as well. I have a partner, tom. I have two fur babies no real babies at this stage Three, three, three, which one died.

Madi:

Sorry, three fur babies sorry, I don't know which one I wasn't thinking of. I think I was like thinking what I was gonna say next. Um, I feel like, yeah, like I think, listening to what lauren said about that, she's like kind of turned over this new chapter and has stepped into that womanhood. I feel like I'm kind of at a point where I'm not quite there yet. I feel like I'm in a big transitional phase at the moment in a lot of different senses, but particularly career. I feel like I was in the industry for really close to a decade in real estate and recently March this year have left that to work in my partner's electrical business, but also just explore other areas of my interests and also my business Effortless Favors as well, which is a gift and hamper business, and we do candles as well that I make.

Madi:

But yeah, I find it a bit hard to like kind of pinpoint what I do. I find, even when people are like, oh, what do you do for work? I'm like I don't know a lot of things, um, yeah, I, I guess I could probably go into a bit of astrology. I'm a Capricorn sun, but then my moon is Sagittarius, so that's kind of like where I'm fine and tuning into. That's where my different interest levels come in need for change, thriving off change, but then also trying to really tap into the Capricorn and be really centered in where I am and not continuously chasing things, because I think you can also get a bit lost in that as well. Is that person okay?

Madi:

Welcome to Woi. Woi, is that person? Okay, do you need help? Oh my gosh. So, yeah, I just feel like I'm in a bit of a transition at the moment. I think I'm just kind of like a bit here, there, everywhere, I'm really happy and I'm really enjoying what I'm doing. I'm exploring different avenues of career. I'm studying, which has been really amazing to do. So I'm doing a digital marketing course at the moment and also doing some freelancing as well. So I do some work with Laura and then picking up some other clients that are kind of like, yeah, almost finding me in a way that I'm working with them in totally different areas as well, and particularly that creativity that I'm really excited to step into. But, yeah, I feel like I'm just in a bit of a like a reinvent phase, but I'm not quite at the end of that, so it's kind of hard to speak on and be like.

Madi:

this is where I'm at because I'm kind of a little bit all over the place, but I'm doing well, I'm okay, yeah. I know, yeah. So I had a dark night of the soul this year. I put it in february and laura was like fuck babe, can we swear on this? Yeah, yeah. Laura was like fuck babe and I was like what is it? And yeah, oh yeah, I had the dark night of the soul.

Madi:

I'm coming out the other end though but yeah, I'm coming out the other end, um, but yeah, I think in terms of interests, like outside of work, I love yoga, I love pilates, I'm really into my pilates at the moment um, I'm a big family person.

Madi:

I love being my family, I love being with close friends. I find think I've got a really nice group of friends now that I think it's taken me a really nice group of friends now that I think it's taken me a little bit to get there but I'm really happy with the people that I have in my life now, um, and again like goes back to the Sagittarius I have a good variety of people in my life. That I think, different people for different reasons and I really like that because it I just feel very full in the friendship department, which I think is really nice. Yeah, I love that. So, yeah, feeling blessed and just excited to see where this particularly takes us, and I think 2025 is going to be a massive year. I can feel that behind me and even we've all spoken about that we feel like it's going to be a massive year and just seeing where that goes, but then also just staying really grounded and trying to just, yeah, be really stay true to who I am, but also explore in different areas as well.

Lauren:

So, yeah, that's me I'm loving where you're at right now, because you are, you know, you're blooming, um. I feel like you are well and truly on the path to being maddie and showing you yeah to the world, which is incredible. Thank you, so it's been so special to watch, like all of our journeys.

Madi:

Yeah, I think I don't didn't mention this, but I'm 27. I think that's the only thing that I was going to mention, and you're also going to have a solo return, so have fun, oh god no we are what age does that happen?

Lauren:

27 to 28, 27 to 29, I don't know. Avalon will probably be like no, no, no no, we'll bring her on oh yeah, you'll meet her. Thank you for sharing.

Laura:

Thanks for sharing love that lovely you're out and um yeah, I work with you and we have some. I've worked with you both now and I do life with you. I do love you, um, but yeah, I think, yeah, I love what you've shared and you're a freaking powerhouse you're you both are a jack of all trades.

Laura:

But, maddie, right now, you're in the realm of everything you're just like feeling any of your feelers out there and that's beautiful. Yeah, what your 20s are all about, apparently. Oh yeah, well, um, I'll introduce myself. Um, my name is laura laura b? Um, I've got a beautiful husband, um, pat. He's just my freaking everything, um, and we share a beautiful son, um, and yeah, we've been married for like three years, but we've been together for I think we're coming up 13 years next year.

Madi:

Like wow.

Laura:

So the you know the chapters we've gone through. We met when we were 16, we're friends and then I think our love really started to blossom when we were 17. And yeah, it's just so many chapters, I feel like we could do a whole episode on your name.

Laura:

Yeah, don't know how comfortable he would feel 13 years later SpongeBob me 13 years later, sponge bob me 13 years later. Oh no, he's, he's the best. And um, yeah, we, we have a beautiful life. I live in um sydney, in the northern beaches, and the fun part about this podcast is we'll be doing it in my flower studio, which I have a flower business called celesta blooms um. Full-time florist, full-time mama, yeah, and I just love what I do. I feel like I start when me and Lauren have a history. We've lived in Scotland together when we were very young and crazy.

Laura:

We did a bit of a gap year there. So I feel like when I did my travels in Europe and Scotland, I really started to really connect into you know who. Who do I want to be, what do I want to do for the people, like for the community and people, and it really started to, yeah, the dots started shining then. And then yeah, I've come back, been a florist, um, did my studies, so I guess you could say my flower journey started there, um, and yeah, haven't turned back since, um, but I also do love to work with disability. I still do that, um, privately, here and there, dabble in a bit of that and have have fun with my client doing that, um. But yeah, ultimately I am a florist, a good one of it.

Madi:

She's been involved guys.

Lauren:

Oh, don't Again. Journal and more when. What's that?

Laura:

one Wednesday, wednesday, thursday.

Madi:

No, the one, oh, the when, the when, the when have contacted me.

Laura:

Yeah, so that's really exciting. Um, yes, I love what I do, um, and yeah, it's just art, like literally through nature, and I've had incredible experiences, um, with flowers, um, even alongside another florist, um, yeah, so definitely would love to share that one day, um. But ultimately, yeah, I'm keen to, you know, delve into this podcast with you guys, have a bit of fun, mix it up a bit. I'm open to everything in life really. So, yeah, that's kind of who I am. Where I'm at. I'm pretty, yeah, pretty laid back and pretty chilled. I don't really have anything more to say, really, than I'm happy, I'm content.

Laura:

I've built a beautiful life and I'd love to share my journey with you guys one day, about you know my life and ebbs and flows, but ultimately I think I'm just content, like you said, lauren, with who I am. I love being a mum, which is, yeah, I just love being a mum, always wanted to be a mumma, and when it happened it was sort of scary. I was like, oh my gosh.

Laura:

I didn't know, you know it just happened so quickly, so like in a sense that I, you know it just happened. We weren't really trying, it was a honeymoon baby and I feel like the best things in life do just happen like that. So, yeah, other than that, I think I'm pretty chill, pretty. I feel like I'm just gasping, I'm on a tangent. Yeah, I'm just gasping. Now Mic drop and clap and clap.

Lauren:

We love you, babe. You're just such an inspiring person to be around and to watch and filled with awe and freaking. I was scrolling through your IG.

Madi:

I think I already sent you this in a voice note scrolling through Laura's IG, she was like I know this person.

Lauren:

I don't know, just know her. She's like my sister she's a freaking boss ass florist Sydney's number two florist or something like that.

Laura:

I wouldn't go that crazy. I would.

Lauren:

You're very kind, but you deserve everything that you have built for yourself. Thank you.

Laura:
